It used to be called Windows 10 S, but now it's referred to as Windows 10 in S Mode, and some users are infuriatingly stuck using it. As Windows Latest reports, Windows 10 ships in S mode on a number of devices such as Microsoft's own Surface Go, the Samsung Galaxy Book2, HP Stream 11 G4, or the Acer Aspire One. It's a feature-limited version of the operating system, meaning you can only install apps from the Microsoft Store and system settings are locked down. The full-fat version of Windows 10 is a much better option and Microsoft does allow you to switch, but... Multiple reports are appearing of the upgrade process not working because the "Switch out of S Mode" page in the Microsoft Store appears to be blank. If the page doesn't load, the upgrade can't happen, and users are left to complain to Microsoft. Thankfully, Microsoft is aware a problem exists and is trying to figure out what's causing it, but without much luck so far it seems. Speaking to Windows Latest, a Microsoft support rep explained, "This is not expected behavior and the issue is not with your PC. Microsoft is aware that some users are unable to upgrade to Pro Edition or switch out of S mode as a result of this blank page. We are investigating the cause and when a resolution is available the Store will update without any user action necessary. There is no current estimate on when this condition will be resolved." The good news here is it isn't to do with the copy of Windows 10 installed on these machines, so it looks to be a server-side problem on the Microsoft Store. What's strange is why it's taking Microsoft so long to figure out why this is happening, but with more publicity hopefully comes more focus and it should be resolved soon. Until then, users stuck in S Mode, we feel your pain.
