The latest Windows 10 Insider Preview Build (19018) has been released today and it includes a new search feature meant to replace typing popular search terms with a single click. As Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager for the Windows Insider Program explains, Build 19018 (20H1) includes a new addition to the Search Home section of the operating system. Instead of just being able to type in a search term, there's now four quick web search buttons to click. The four buttons represent what Microsoft believes are the most common search subjects and cover weather, top news, today in history, and new movies. Weather gets you the current conditions and upcoming forecast for your location, top news is the latest headlines pulled from popular news sites, today in history is a series of events that occurred on this day, and new movies is a list of the movies available to go and watch in your local theaters. This is by no means a final feature and Microsoft wants feedback on just how useful it is. My first thought is that while I like the idea of quick search buttons, I'd like to choose what they search for, so give me four or five customizable buttons and I'm sure most Windows 10 users would see this as a positive addition to Search Home. Microsoft also tweaked the design for web previews in search results, so if you're used to using Search Home on Insider builds the results you see may look ever so slightly different from now on. While Microsoft's Windows 10 software team continues to develop the OS, the hardware team is already gearing up for Black Friday with some generous discounts on Surface and Windows 10 PCs. Meanwhile, Microsoft Research is focused on developing a new type of storage that will keep data safe for thousands of years.
