(Photo by AFP via Getty Images)The labeling of President Trump's tweets is getting a lot of headlines, but Twitter says it labeled approximately 300,000 election-related tweets as disputed and potentially misleading across its platform between Oct. 27 and Nov. 11.That’s 0.2% of all tweets on the election. The tagged tweets violated Twitter’s Civic Integrity Policy, which states that users “may not use Twitter’s services for the purpose of manipulating or interfering in elections or other civic processes.”Twitter also covered 456 tweets with a warning message and restricted their ability to be re-tweeted, replied or, or liked (quote tweets still worked). "Approximately 74% of the people who viewed those Tweets saw them after we applied a label or warning message," Twitter says. "We saw an estimated 29% decrease in Quote Tweets of these labeled Tweets due in part to a prompt that warned people prior to sharing."Trump's Twitter feed is currently awash in labels. A Nov. 2 tweet, for example, said a Supreme Court decision on voting in Pennsylvania would lead to "rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine our entire systems of laws. It will also induce violence in the streets." He's fired off dozens of similar tweets since losing the election. But those messages have no basis in fact; Trump's own Homeland Security Department this week determined that the Nov. 3 election was the "most secure in American history."Twitter reminded users for weeks about potentially delayed election results and the legitimacy of mail-in votes; those prompts were seen 389 million times. It also attempted to get users to engage with content before they re-tweeted by displaying a prompt if people moved to re-tweet before reading an article.
