Find out how we test here. With the announcement of the RTX 50 series now here, there’s plenty to analyze when it comes to performance. So far, we only have Nvidia’s official charts to go off. Based on these, each and every one of the announced GPUs (RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070) offers double the performance of their respective predecessors. Well, there’s a caveat there. These new GPUs are benefitting a lot from the new DLSS 4 technology, which features multi-frame generation locked to the 50 series. This results in massive gains and shows just how well Nvidia is utilizing AI to aid performance. However, when it comes to raw rasterization benchmarks, it seems like we’ll be waiting a couple of weeks longer. In a recent YouTube video from Linus Tech Tips (one of the most popular tech channels on the platform), Linus got to enjoy an exclusive look at a system running the RTX 5090 and compare it to the existing 4090. After talking a little about the hardware itself – including the new power connector – he got to test the machine in Cyberpunk 2077 exclusively. This is a game that is featured prominently in Nvidia’s DLSS 4-powered benchmarks. Unfortunately, Linus was unable to change any of the settings, so we won’t get to see native resolution rasterization results just yet. He notes that Nvidia can’t let him show much “prior to the performance embargo in a couple of weeks” so we’re keen to see further performance benchmarks very soon. DLSS 4 seems to be doing some heavy lifting at the moment; on the bright side, it has been confirmed for 75 games and apps so far, and we expect many more partnerships to come in AAA games. According to Nvidia, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will be available from January 30th. The RTX 4070 series (4070 & 4070 Ti) will follow them sometime in February.
