Galido Technology RSS FeedsListen to Audio The five biggest companies in the tech industry are worth a collective 5 billion dollars. That’s a massive number for just five companies. So then, why is tech so valuable? A big reason is that tech enables businesses to run more smoothly and anything that can help others make more money is worth a lot. We’re willing to bet that you’re not surprised by the generic claim that “tech powers businesses”. As a matter of fact, we’re sure that your business uses tech of some sort to boost productivity. We’re also willing to bet though that tech can occasionally do more to hamper your workflow than help it due to IT problems. If IT problems are a source of frustration for you, keep reading. Below, our team outlines the most common IT problems that we help people solve remotely and we also share with you some practical tips on how you can troubleshoot these problems on your own. System Log in Issues You’ve powered on your computer, you try to log in and… You can’t. Believe it or not, this is a problem that we help employees with across various businesses. There are a few things that might be causing this issue. First, you may be typing your password in wrong. Second, you may have your cap-locks key activated. Third, your computer may need you to reset your password for security purposes. Password reset requests should pop up on your log in screen or may have been emailed to you. Slow Computer This is a problem that plagues computer users everywhere. If your files take forever to open, if your computer takes forever to start up, if you experience frequent freezes, remote IT can help. Most IT teams will start by trying to clear out your computer’s temp files. If that doesn’t work, simply restarting the computer might help. Finally, IT would scan your computer for viruses, scan for registry errors and might recommend upgrading your computer’s hard drive from an HDD to an SSD. Deleted Files If you’ve accidentally hit delete on something that you shouldn’t have, you may be able to recover your file. As a first step, check your recycling bin to make sure that your file didn’t end up in there. If it did, just drag it out and back to your desktop. If you’ve cleared it from your recycling, things get more complicated. There are tools that can dig up deleted files from your hard drive’s temporary memory banks. Your IT team might leverage one of those tools to see if they can dig up what you need. If that fails, “restoring” your computer to a previous date if a restore point has been could do the trick. Slow Internet Can’t get on the websites that you need to access without falling asleep? We’ve certainly seen that issue. If the internet at your business is slow all the time, you likely need to talk to your ISP about improving speeds. If it’s only slow during certain times of the day, you’re probably dealing with bandwidth throttling due to a computer on your network doing too much. Usually, people transferring large files is the culprit. Random Shut Downs There is nothing more frustrating than when your computer shuts down all of a sudden without you prompting it to. These random shutdowns might even cause you to lose work that you’ve been slaving over (so hit that “save” key often). Random shutdowns without any prompt are commonly due to your CPU overheating. Does your computer or laptop run hot? If they do, you may need to replace your CPU’s heat-sync to keep it from burning up or, if you’re lucky, might just need to dust out your computer and invest in a cheap cooling pad. Your remote IT team can use software to check your computer’s internal temperature remotely. USB Issues One day your USB mouse is working and the next day it isn’t… Bummer. To suss out the problem, start by plugging your USB mouse into another port on your computer. Try and pick a port that’s on the other side of your system if possible. If your mouse works, restart your computer and try the bad port again. If the problem is relegated to the single port (or a couple of ports next to each other) your USB card likely needs replacing. If your mouse isn’t working on any port but other USB devices are, it could be that your mouse (or similar USB device) has gone bad or that your computer needs to reinstall your USB device’s drivers which remote IT can help with. Blue Screen of Death The vast majority of IT problems pale in comparison to the dreaded blue screen of death (BSOD). That’s because most IT problems have an obvious solution. BSOD on the other hand can be due to a wide variety of hardware related failures. The most common BSOD culprit is bad RAM. If you can, try and swap out your memory sticks to see if that helps. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to bring your IT problems to a technician to see if they can help out. Cumbersome Workflows If you find yourself moving back and forth between programs to aggregate data that you need, learning more about APIs and working with remote IT to create custom ones to streamline your workflows can save you hours per week. APIs allow programs to filter data between one another which allow teams to build custom and secure solutions to their daily work problems. Wrapping up Common IT Problems Solved by Remote IT Services All of the IT problems above are common occurrences that local and remote based IT services can usually help troubleshoot. Depending on the severity of your issues, you may have to opt for a local team though since not everything can be fixed over the internet (especially if your internet is slow).
