If you're looking to smarten up your home but don't know where to start, consider installing a Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED. At $24.99, this affordable smart bulb can be installed in any standard E26 socket and connects directly to your home Wi-Fi without the need for a hub. It displays 16 million colors, supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voices commands, and can interact with other smart home devices via IFTTT applets. It also comes with a user-friendly mobile app that lets you create lighting schedules and scenes, and tells you how much power the bulb is using. All of this makes it one of the best deals around and our new Editors' Choice for affordable smart bulbs. Design and Features The Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED is a dimmable A19 bulb with an E26 base that can be used with any standard lamp socket. It measures 2.3 inches in diameter, 4.2 inches long, and has a maximum output of 800 lumens, which is roughly equivalent to a 60-watt bulb. It's a 16-million color bulb with a white temperature range of 2000K to 6500K and a rated lifespan of 25,000 hours. The Smart Wi-Fi LED has an embedded 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio it uses to connect to your home network. As such, it doesn't require a hub to control it remotely like the Philips Hue bulbs do. Access to the bulb comes by way of the Sengled mobile app for Android and iOS devices. It opens to a home screen that displays all of your installed Sengled bulbs by room designation. There are three buttons at the top of the screen: All On, All Off, and Setting. The All On/All Off buttons can be used to control all of your bulbs at once, and the Setting button takes you to a screen where Scene shortcuts are displayed. Here you can create Scenes to have bulbs turn on and off and display specific colors and brightness levels just by tapping a shortcut button. Each room also has its own All On and All Off buttons that allow you to control just the bulbs assigned to that room. Tap any bulb tab to configure individual color and brightness settings and to turn that specific bulb on or off. Brightness and white color temperature settings are adjusted using a slider and there are five white color temperature presets including Cool, Daylight, Soft, Warm, and White. Tap any color on the palette to change the bulb's color, or press the Neon button to have the bulb gradually change colors automatically. At the bottom of the settings screen is a Light Schedules button. Tap it to open a screen where you can set Sleep, On and Off, and Wake Up schedules to have the bulb turn on and off at specific times of the day with a certain color, white color temperature, and brightness level. Back at the home screen there are Home, Devices, Scenes, and Settings buttons. The Home button takes you back to the home screen from wherever you are in the app and the Devices button takes you to a screen that offers the same individual color, color temperature, presets, and brightness settings as mentioned above. The Scenes button takes you to a screen where you can create and edit Scenes, and the Settings screen is where you go to view daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly energy usage statistics. You can view this information for each bulb or as a total for all installed Sengled bulbs. In Settings you can also configure Alexa and Google Assistant voice support, which allows you to turn the bulb on and off, change colors, set brightness levels, and change the white color temperature using voice commands. There's also an IFTTT setting that allows you to link your Sengled account to your IFTTT account so you can have the bulb interact with other IFTTT devices such as smart plugs and cameras, a feature that you don't get with the Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb White and Color. However, Apple's HomeKit platform is not supported. For that you'll need a Philips Hue or LIFX bulb. Installation and Performance Installing the Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED is as easy as it gets. Simply screw the bulb into a socket, turn it on, and download the mobile app. Create an account using your email address and a password, press Start, and then press Add Device. Select Smart Wi-Fi Bulb from the list of devices and use your phone to scan the QR code located on the side of the box. Next, pair the bulb to your Wi-Fi network and enter your Wi-Fi password, name the bulb and assign it to a room, and you're done. The LED performed flawlessly in testing. Color quality is excellent, and the bulb responded instantly to on, off, and color change commands using the mobile app. It also never missed a schedule and reacted immediately to Scenes I created. Alexa voice commands to turn the bulb on and off and change its color and white temperature were immediately executed, and my IFTTT applet to have the bulb turn red when an Arlo camera detected motion worked perfectly. Power-usage data matched up nicely with readings from my Kill-A-Watt meter. Conclusions At $24.99, the Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED is one of the most affordable color bulbs we've come across. Granted, it doesn't offer the level of third-party support that you get with the Philips Hue ecosystem, but you can control it with your voice or from anywhere with your phone without having to purchase and configure a hub. It also offers support for IFTTT applets that allow it to interact with other smart devices, and it comes with a useful mobile app that lets you set schedules, create scenes, and keep tabs on how much power each bulb is consuming. The lack of HomeKit compatibility notwithstanding, the Sengled's rich color output, voice support, and IFTTT integration earn it our Editors' Choice for affordable smart bulbs. Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED Multicolor Bottom Line: The Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED is a reasonably priced color light bulb that connects directly to your Wi-Fi network and can be controlled with your phone or voice, without the need for a hub.
