On July 17, any NES game played on the Nintendo Switch will allow players the option of rewinding time and undoing any mistakes they made. It's become much harder to die in modern games, or death has been turned into its own mechanic and minimized as a barrier to progression. In the 1980's that wasn't the case, and a single hit in a game could send you right back to the beginning. It was often much more frustrating than it was fun. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was no exception to this rule, and now with 46 NES games available to play on the Switch, Nintendo is making it easier to recover from death. From July 17, all NES games will get a rewind feature, which allows players to rewind time as the video below demonstrates. The Rewind feature can be activated by holding down the ZL and ZR buttons on your Switch controller. This will pop-up a number of screenshots from the game, with each representing a further step back in time. Selecting one of these shots will rewind the player to a previous state of play, with the idea being they can try again and progress further. Rewinding the action certainly doesn't break the games and it does offer a nice way to see more of these classic titles. Some gamers won't be happy it's there as they just want the classic experience. It's an optional feature you can choose to ignore, though, so in that regard it caters to everyone. If you'd like to play NES games on the Switch, then sign up for the Nintendo Switch Online service. It costs $3.99 for a month, $7.99 for three months, or $19.99 for a year and unlocks a growing selection of NES classics.
