Samsung is planning to release a second, "compact-sized square" foldable device next year, which could be the sequel to the Galaxy Fold. As Bloomberg reports, the new device will have a 6.7-inch inner display that folds "like a clamshell" into a smaller, square device. It will apparently be thinner and more affordable than the beleaguered Galaxy Fold, which will cost $1,980 in the US, but sources say the launch of the second device is contingent on how well the Fold performs. The new foldable phone will reportedly have a hole-punch selfie camera at the top of the inner display, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and two cameras on the back (or the front, when the device is closed). Since the device, when open, will have the same dimensions as a smartphone, it will run Android apps normally, as opposed to the customized versions needed for the Galaxy Fold. Samsung is working with American designer Thom Browne to give the device greater appeal outside the tech world, pitching it to those interested in "fashion, status and luxury." The Galaxy Fold is set to launch this month, following delays and redesigns after the first devices sent to journalists broke in April.
