pcmag.comCross platform multiplayer action is headed to popular turn-based strategy game and PC Mag UK favourite The Battle Of Polytopia this month. Until now, you've only been able to play against AI tribes in Polytopia, as you each vie for control of an isometric grid world - or play with friends in local versus mode. This is by far the most requested feature from Polytopia's user base, which at the time of writing, racks up over 80,000 daily plays across an installed base of 5 million. While that’s a far cry from Pokémon Go's 100 million-plus downloads or Candy Crush's 10 million plus active users as of last summer, when you consider that Polytopia's an indie effort, developed, maintained and promoted by a team of two, it's an incredible achievement. We've yet to test out the new multiplayer mode ourselves, but we know that it's been in development for some time. Creator of Polytopia and CEO of Midjiwan AB Felix af Ekenstam told us back in December that the feature will be free to anyone who has already paid to unlock one of the extra tribes - unlock prices range from £0.89p to £2.39. You'll also be able play against whoever you want, instead of getting matched against randoms. The updated versions of Polytopia are due to hit iTunes and Google Play next Thursday, the 15th of February. We'll go hands on then; in the meantime, check out our feature/review here for an idea of what else Midjiwan has in store this year.
