pcmag.comMusic streaming service Spotify has landed on Sky Q, giving subscribers in the UK and Ireland the ability to access playlists, podcasts and new releases through their TV set, or stream tunes to speakers via Bluetooth or AirPlay. The app, launching today, will see both paying and freemium customers able to tap into Spotify’s library of over 35 million tracks. The service, which costs £9.99/month in the UK and €9.99/month in Ireland, lands on Sky Q just days after the free version received an overhaul, giving non-payers greater control of what can be played. As well as stripping out adverts, one of the benefits of Spotify Premium is your ability to create and edit an unlimited number of playlists. Non-payers can now create up to 15 playlists over which they have full control - the rest of the time, when streaming music, Spotify is essentially on shuffle mode for non-subscribers. Jorge Espinel, VP of Business Development, Spotify, commented: “Spotify and Sky share a focus on innovation, disruption and delivering an excellent experience to our customers. We're delighted that consumers in the UK and Ireland will soon have another means to listen to all the music and podcasts they love on Spotify via Sky Q. The partnership between Spotify and Sky will offer consumers the chance to enjoy great entertainment from two leading media brands, and we are excited for what the future of the partnership may bring." The service will work regardless of the kind of Sky Q subscription you have and will work whether you have a standard Sky Q set-top box or the 2TB 4k Ultra HD-ready Sky Q box (aka the Sky Q Silver box). Sky Q subscriptions start at £20/month for the Entertainment bundle in the UK, or €29.50/month for the Original Bundle in Ireland.
