Just in time for a new school year, Minecraft: Education Edition is headed to Apple's iPad this fall. "Now, students can tap into the power of iPad to build historic monuments, swim through coral reefs with the Update Aquatic, bring creative stories to life, experiment with chemistry, and document their learning with the camera and portfolio features," Microsoft's Education Team wrote in a Monday blog post. If your school district is already licensed for Microsoft 365 for Education, you already have access to the educational game and will be able to download the app onto iPads next month. Otherwise, head here to download a free trial and purchase a license. Meanwhile, Minecraft players on Windows 10 PCs and Xbox can now check out the Chemistry Resource Pack, which first arrived in the Education Edition in February. The pack lets you create elements and combine them into compounds, build a periodic table, and create other items like helium balloons and sparklers. To try it out, go to the "Create New World" option in the game, open the "Cheats" menu, then toggle the "Education" option. Teachers in 115 countries already use Minecraft in their classrooms, Microsoft said. Last year, Redmond partnered with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the company that owns the rights to The Oregon Trail, to bring the classic historical simulation game into Minecraft: Education Edition. The experience offers the "complete storyline of The Oregon Trail from Missouri to the Pacific Coast … reimagined in the open world of Minecraft," Microsoft said.
