It'll rely on a well-established wireless carrier in the United States, according to Android Police. Verizon, which offers its 5G network in more than two dozen U.S. cities right now, will reportedly serve as a key partner when the OnePlus 8 arrives. Both sides signed a distribution agreement last year. OnePlus gets its hardware in front of more customers, and Verizon gains another 5G-ready smartphone to sell. It'll mark the first time Verizon sells a OnePlus-made smartphone online or in its retail stores. While some smartphones like OnePlus 7 Pro have been certified by the nation's largest carrier, Verizon doesn't actually sell them. So there's a huge milestone ahead if the OnePlus 8 lands at Verizon. In late 2019, the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren 5G appeared set for full support on Verizon's 5G network but never earned a spot in the lineup. T-Mobile, however, did sell that smartphone. Verizon didn't explain what happened, but the latest report suggests it's now prepared to release OnePlus' flagship with 5G connectivity as soon as it goes official. Courtesy of the deal between Verizon and OnePlus, this flagship will unfortunately ship with bloatware as well. Sources indicate that pre-installed apps should appear. Bloatware takes up storage with unused apps and games, but Verizon and its competitors often use it to increase margins on hardware sales. In addition, bloatware typically features carrier-operated services that only benefit them. The good news is that, due to Verizon's direct involvement, the OnePlus 8 should enable network-specific features such as Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE. Pricing isn't as clear, and Android Police doesn't know about the OnePlus 8 Lite. OnePlus is expected to announce a watered-down version of its flagship, which might mean 5G connectivity won't be included. Similarly, a top-tier OnePlus 8 Pro will join the mix. OnePlus plans on targeting the high-end, mid-range, and budget-friendly segments of the market with this upcoming trio. Nothing is official at the moment, and OnePlus hasn't scheduled a press conference yet. Regardless, expect big things this year from OnePlus.
