UPDATE 7/9: The YouTube app is now officially available again on Fire TV devices, according to The Verge. Amazon Prime video streaming is also available on Android TV devices and the Chromecast beginning today, signaling that the two companies have finally decided to get along again, at least for now. Original Story 4/18:Amazon's Prime Video app is coming to Google's Chromecast and Android TV, while Google's YouTube app will return to Amazon Fire TV products. The detente will occur "in the coming months," the companies said in a joint announcement, after which Fire TV owners will be able to download a YouTube app, sign into their accounts, and "access their full library of content, and play videos in 4K HDR at 60 fps on supported devices." Amazon's Prime Video app, meanwhile, will be compatible with Google Chromecast, meaning those with a Chromecast can cast Amazon Prime shows and movies, as well as rented and purchased content from a mobile device to their TVs. Prime Video will also be "broadly available" on Android TVs. YouTube TV and YouTube Kids will also be available on Fire TV later this year. Amazon and Google have been feuding for several years now. Amazon stopped selling the Google Chromecast on Amazon.com in 2015 after Amazon released its own Chromecast competitor, the Fire TV Stick. In 2017, Amazon also stopped selling certain products from Google's Nest. In response, Google pulled the YouTube app from Amazon's Echo Show and Fire TV devices. Amazon's workaround was to launch YouTube through the Firefox or Silk browser on Fire TV devices. The Chromecast returned to Amazon in late 2018; Nest devices are available on Amazon.com now, too. But until now, YouTube did not return to Fire TV, while Prime Video has never been available on Chromecast. The joint statement does not mention YouTube returning to the Echo Show or Spot. Editor's Note: This story was updated at 9:05am ET on July 9 with confirmation of the YouTube app being available again on Fire TV devices.
