Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+, is coming to the UK on the 31st of March, the same day it reaches other European countries including Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, the BBC reports. At launch the streaming service will have a number of big-name titles including new Star Wars series The Mandalorian, a live-action Lady & The Tramp remake, a National Geographic show called The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and a smattering of other series' from the entertainment giant's portfolio. Due to a recent $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney+ will also feature The Simpsons, too. Disney+ will rival Apple TV+, Netflix, and Amazon Prime when it launches, but it might be a slow beginning for the upstart platform. Disney won't get the rights to its highly successful Marvel movies until the second year of Disney+'s existence, which could make it more difficult to attract users to the platform initially. In the first year, Disney is expected to have 7,500 episodes of television and 500 movies available. On the other hand, Disney is tying its cinematic universe - the single narrative maintained between its movies and TV shows - tighter together, which could attract more viewers to the platform faster. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige said that viewers who want to understand everything in the MCU will need a Disney+ subscription, Bloomberg reported. The superhero Scarlet Witch will be a main part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the Loki TV series will also be a part. "I'm not sure we've actually acknowledged that before," Feige said. Moreover, parents may want a library of safe content they can play for younger children - especially in the light of the scandals surrounding YouTube's algorithm. Conscious mothers and fathers are much more likely to sit their child in front of one of Disney's classic animated movies, rather than worry whether disturbing videos are being unintentionally recommended. Disney+ will cost $6.99 per month in the US, while the UK price is yet to be announced.
