As cord cutters watch everything from live sports and TV shows to movies, music videos, and the endless catalog of YouTube randomness on every device and screen they own, the streaming landscape has grown vast and populous. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and OnDevice Research surveyed worldwide streaming video habits, including live streaming, and found that 70 percent of consumers stream one or more videos every day. The study, which surveyed 4,200 consumers in 21 countries around the world, also found that 67 percent of respondents have live-streamed video, with 47 percent saying their live streaming frequency has increased since last year. The Why Axis generally features only a single chart, but in this case the IAB report also includes key additional data that colors in some deeper trends in live streaming video. Smartphones are the most popular devices for live-streaming video at 67 percent, followed by smart TVs at 63 percent, and both tablets and streaming devices at 60 percent. But when streaming for longer than 30 minutes, viewers tend to gravitate toward more traditional streaming devices, such as laptops, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and streaming-specific devices including Chromecast and Roku. As far as what viewers are streaming, social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat topped the list at 52 percent, beating out digital streaming platform subscriptions at 41 percent.
